Pavakkai poriyal/ Bitter gourd fry


Pavakkai Poriyal is one of the medicinal vegetables. As all of us know, bitter gourd is used by diabetic patients. Also it is widely used by us "Sounth Indians". Though it tastes bitter, bittergourd is not avoided in our regular diet rather it is in our regular routine. Let us see some of the Health benefits of Bitter gourd.
Nutrional Values/Health benefits:
 Bittergourd is used in the treatment of diabetes, Skin Problems, Hemorrhoids, Respiratory Problem and Intestinal worms.

Bitter gourd has the various very important vitamins and also the minerals together with axerophthol — B vitamin, and B vitamin, water-soluble vitamin — and also the Iron, Calcium, element, Copper or K. There are several health reasons why you ought to take the bitter vegetable seriously.

Pavakkai Poriyal

Total Time: 35mins      Preparation Time:15 mins     Cooking Time: 20 mins
Recipe Type: Side dish
Cuisine: South Indian

Ingredients:

Pavakkai – 4
Chilly Powder – 2 tsp/ add it to your spice level
Turmeric powder – A generous pinch
Salt to taste

Tempering:

Mustard seed – 1 tsp
Onion – 1 medium
Oil – 1 tbsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Preparation:

1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds when the oil becomes hot. Then add curry leaves and onion. When the onion becomes translucent add bitter gourd.










2. Stir the bitter gourd with onion and close it and cook until the color of bitter gourd changes.




3. Now add chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt and stir the bittergourd occasionally keeping it in medium flame.

4. Once the bitter gourd shrinks in size and it is cooked well, switch off the flame.












Note: 

I didn't add anything/ immersed bitter gourd in any solution.
Just had the bitter melon with its mild bitterness, which we'll had with sambar.Sambar Recipe
